Track Sightings

What To Do When You Get Sightings

Posters are up, flyers are distributed, Social Media and other Networks are all posted. Now the phone is ringing with sightings. DGR recommends you do the following with the information you receive.

  1. Keep a journal of the sightings.
  2. Print out a map (google maps) of the local area your dog went missing.
  3. Take down the following information from the caller:
    • DATE & TIME OF CALL
    • NAME OF CALLER
    • CONTACT NUMBER
    • DESCRIPTION OF THE DOG
    • ANY COLLAR / LEASH ETC (ID PURPOSES)
    • HEALTH/CONDITION OF THE DOG
    • LOCATION OF THE SIGHTING
    • TIME OF SIGHTING
    • IS DOG STILL IN AREA OR DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
    • HOW OFTEN HAS THE DOG BEEN SEEN IN AREA
  4. Find and indicate on the map the location of this sighting and the date.
Keeping track of this information will help determine if your dog is moving around, or staying in the local area. Depending on the information you receive, we may decide it is time to set a trap or put out more posters etc.
  5. Inform your contact from CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteers of the sighting.
  6. DO NOT post any information about the sightings on facebook. This could draw well-intentioned people who think they are helping but can actually push your dog out of the area and perhaps into harm’s way.
